One of the most effective headlines in the world is the “one weird productivity trick” headline.
You know the headlines I’m talking about. You’ve probably seen them hundreds of times.
The reason these headlines are so effective is because, there’s a little part inside each one of us that wants to believe that the only thing standing between us and our loftiest dreams is a weird productivity trick.
We all want the shortcut, the easy way, the path of least resistance.
It’s how we’re wired.
But, deep down, we all know that it’s highly unlikely that “one weird productivity trick” will make much of a difference.
That’s because productivity isn’t about “one weird trick.”
In fact, it isn’t about “tricks,” “tips,” or “hacks” at all.
True productivity is holistic—it requires certain beliefs, habits and strategies.
I received this picture from a former client named Ben. He told me that he kept this note on his desk to remind himself constantly to run away from any and all weird tricks.
This note sat on his desk for a full year.
And, you know what?
He made his first million that year.
I think not.
When he got serious about getting things done, and when he was committed to consistently working toward his dreams, he made incredible progress.
We all have a foggy idea of hearing somewhere sometime about how the easy road leads to hell, while the road to heaven is narrow and difficult.
So, do yourself a favor and make the commitment right now not to fall into the trap of the one weird trick solutions.
Because once you make this commitment, your dreams just might come true.
