Hi, I’m Henry Bergen

I’m an award-winning author, productivity consultant, and founder of noeticjournaling.com.

I have spent the last decade training highly successful business people, entrepreneurs and not-for-profit leaders how to connect with their purposesharpen their focus, and increase their productivity.

I take a different approach than most "experts" out there.

I don’t believe in “life hacks.” Instead of trying to trick your brain into doing what you want, I show you how to work along with your brain to accomplish more of the things that will bring purpose and meaning to your life.

I won’t try to sell you a one-size-fits-all “productivity system.” Instead, I will help you set and reach goals that align with who you are and how you work best.

I don’t believe that the key to your success is found in keeping habits by sheer willpower. Instead, I focus on overcoming the psychological and emotional barriers to your success so that you can actually do what you want.

If you're curious, here's a little bit about me

I didn’t know how to read until I was 9 years old. And when I did finally learn, it was only because I had to. For the next eight years in school, I avoided reading like the plague. I actually avoided all school work (and my grades showed it).

But, when I was seventeen, I experienced a transformation: I read my very first book cover-to-cover. I didn’t do it because it was assigned in school or because someone was forcing me. I read it because found a book that resonated with me.

It was a book that promised to explain “how the human brain works.” I didn’t know it at the time, but something strange happened on that day. What used to be a chore instantly became one of my greatest delights. Since that day, I have not stopped reading.

In fact, studying how the brain works and how I can work with my brain to stop letting life “happen” to me and instead take charge of my life has been a central part of my purpose ever since.

But it didn’t take long before I got bogged down with life. I had a family, a job, a mortgage, and not enough time in the day to do everything I had to do, nevermind the things I wanted to do. 

One day I made a decision.

I wasn’t going to let life happen to me any more. I was going to take charge and create the life I wanted.

And so I began my journey. This journey has taken me all over the globe, studying how to find what I want in life and achieve it.

In my research, I saw all these “tips” most personal development experts kept throwing around – tips like “focus on changing simple habits” and “follow this very specific productivity system.” I realized that most of this “advice” made no sense.

People want to see real transformation in their lives, and those tips simply don’t work.

Let’s be honest:

  • Almost nobody actually believes that a “weird trick” or “simple life hack” will actually make a difference in their lives.
  • Everybody has trouble keeping up good habits. I mean, just think about how long it takes to give up on your New Year’s resolutions.
  • Who wants to focus on what they HAVE TO DO – get up earlier, drink less, read more?

Instead of focusing on how to have enough discipline to do what I didn’t really want to do or how to trick my brain into doing it, I wanted to focus on doing what I actually WANT TO DO.

I didn’t want to live my life constantly forcing myself to do things I didn’t want to do. What kind of life is that?

When I finally read my first book, I did it because I wanted to. I did it because I found a book that somehow connected with me on a level I could never have explained at the time.

Ever since, I’ve been obsessed with figuring out how to better connect what I do in my life with who I am, what I believe, and what I value.

And I have worked relentlessly on applying what I’ve found to my own life, as well as helping other people apply it to their lives.

The single most important secret I learned that turned my life around is unbelievably simple: Write things down.

When you learn how to actually make lists, charts, and schedules that work with your brain instead of against it, your life will be transformed, too.

Noetic Journaling is about helping as many people as possible to stop letting life happen and to start taking control.
